1199SEIU Endorses Alvin Bragg for Manhattan District Attorney

1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the largest union in New York and the largest healthcare worker union in the nation, today announced their support for the re-election of Alvin Bragg for Manhattan District Attorney. It is 1199SEIU’s first major endorsement of this election cycle.

“Alvin Bragg has been an effective leader who has made Manhattan a safer place to live and work,” said George Gresham, President of 1199SEIU. “He’s reduced gun violence, held the powerful accountable, and made sure that workers’ rights are upheld and respected. He has stood up for economic justice, protecting our most vulnerable populations, including low-income and undocumented New Yorkers, who have been abused by unscrupulous employers lining their pockets. We are proud to endorse Alvin Bragg to continue his work as Manhattan District Attorney.”

“I am incredibly honored to have the support of 1199SEIU,” said Bragg. “Their members work on the frontlines every day to keep our hospitals, nursing homes and the healthcare sector moving is truly inspiring. Their members are some of the most politically active residents in the city and I’m excited about 1199SEIU joining our campaign. I look forward to continue working with them to win this race and deliver safety and justice for all.”

1199SEIU represents over 200,000 nurses and healthcare workers in New York City, more than 300,000 members in New York State, and over 400,000 total members along the East Coast.

Alvin has previously been endorsed by Manhattan Congressmembers Adriano Espaillat, Jerry Nadler and Dan Goldman, former Manhattan Borough Presidents Ruth Messinger, C. Virginia Fields and Gale Brewer, the West Side Democratic Club, Downtown Independent Democratic Club, Martin Luther King, Jr. Club, Tioga Carver Democratic Club, Village Independent Democrats, Uptown Democratic Club, and Grand Street Democrats.
